Type Locality and Naming

Column: Syria, Column: SE Syria, Sawanet Mbr, Haloul Mbr, Athar Mbr

Synonym:


Lithology and Thickness

Consists of three members: Sawanet Mbr, Haloul Mbr, Athar Mbr. Fine-grained sandstone interbedded with grey-black calcareous shale, limestone and siltstone. The depositional environment was one of shallow-marine to deltaic conditions. There is a Gap at the base of Kasimovian in the strat column, but shown as one continuous formation in the Lexicon format for convenience.

Lower contact

Regionally, the schematic strat column indicates the next older unit as Abba Fm. It is shown there is a Gap at base of Kasimovian in the schematic strat column
